It's less than two weeks when we embark on a rather amazing trip to Africa so we're making sure we have all our ducks in a row -- itineraries, vouchers, etc. all printed; copies made of passports, credit cards, etc.; and packing.

Because we are going to be on small aircraft from Sept. 18 to Oct. 5, we can have only 33 lbs. of luggage. That portion, which will be safari in Zambia and Tanzania, is in the middle of our entire two-month trip so we must do with what we've got for safari when we're in Cape Town, Simon's Town, Plettenberg Bay, Hermanus and Durban before the safari portion of the trip. We won't be checking any luggage, we'll just have a backpack each as a carry-on. It's challenging.

As you can see in the photo, I'm taking very little. Here's what I got into my backpack:

Two 100% nylon convertible safari pants (green and brown);
Two safari shirts (long sleeve and short sleeve)
Two nylon safari shirts (brown and gray)
Two pairs of nylon shorts
Two nylon golf shirts (green and blue)
Swimsuit
Sandals
Nylon rain jacket
Camera and a zoom lens
Laptop and power cord
External hard drive

And, the good news: it came in under 20 lbs.! Woohoo!

Actually, it might be liberating to have so little and not have to check/lug luggage around. :)

Here's the contents of what I got packed into the back, sans the rain jacket and sandals. Those are my feet in my Crocs - those aren't going to Africa with me - the Crocs. The feet will go)

Here's the pack from above.

Good 'ole Field and Stream pack.

Beth packed hers and it came in under 12 lbs. and there's binoculars, voltage converters, toiletries in addition to her clothing. That's pretty amazing. Ha!
